Class 10: Monocular Depth Cues

This screen is 2 Dimensional and Monocular Depth Cues are the reason it looks 3 dimensional. The screen shows objects in front of each other. Where the objects that are closer look bigger and the objects that are smaller look farther away which isn't always the case.
In this photo this tree, although smaller than the mountain, actually looks bigger because it is blocking it.

This tree is in front of a hill and many other trees, but it looks bigger because it's closer.

These clouds are in blocking all the mountains and look bigger than the mountains, but they actually aren't because of monocular depth cues.

This small rock hill is blocking the view of the large mountain behind it because of monocular depth cues.

The bamboo is blocking the view of the hill in the distance. Here it looks bigger than the hill, but it actually isn't because of monocular depth cues.

This is the last photo i took of monocular depth cues. This is a ow with a tree behind it. It is obviously smaller than the tree it looks bigger because of monocular depth cues.

Class 9, Exploring Second Life

This is me exploring the SecondLife virtual world. I first found this area which can be used to teleport to different areas on the island.

First place I teleported to was Tiki Beach. I then realized I was on the same island and that I didn't teleport far. So I continued to walk around.

I then came across this area where you could teleport to different locations I think there were 9 or 10 different locations that you could teleport to.

The first location I teleported to was called Wilderness. When I first went to teleport there I thought it was going to be a forest. It turned out to be a swap with monkeys and crocodiles.

While at the Wilderness locations I stumbled upon a cabin on the bayou. Sadly I couldn't enter.

This next location I visited was called Editor's Pick. I thought this was going to be a pretty cool location, but it ended up really dark and glitchy. since it was hard to see and it took forever to load the area I was standing in I couldn't really explore. For what I got out of this, it's a spaceship, future type area.

This is a picture of the same location attempting to load.

Next, I visited the Art location. This was probably one of the most entertaining because you could actually do stuff.

Here you could click on a piece of art and explore it. I chose Houdini's glass box.

This is a screenshot of my avatar inside the box.

The fourth location I visited was called Music. I was kind of set up like a nightclub, but also had an area where you could buy music.

This is there area where you can buy different music and listen to samples.

This last world was the most boring of them all. There was nothing to do. It was completely empty and It all looked the same. The entire time I was there I think I saw one person.

This is the underwater view of this location.

FINAL PROJECT STEP 1: IMMERSIVE LIBRARIES AND MUSEUMS

This is the overview of the article I had to read on Immersive Education-Libraries and Museums Technology Working Group(LAM.TWG). To get to this article I click on the link (http://JiED.org) found in our class lecture notes and assignments. The overview summarized how they are using virtual worlds and other immersive technology to create virtual museums and libraries. It also spoke about the importance of keeping up with technology as well as the importance of keeping up with the new ways students are learning and finding knowledge.

One of their main goals are to design virtual museums and libraries that can be accessed virtually. This is a new style of learning that can be fun for some students. A lot that goes on now is technology based. Some people even read the newspaper online. This style of learning can be successful for some students because they don't have to worry about traveling, for example to the library, but instead you can access any book in the library right from your home or anywhere you desire.

This diagram below shows that students can virtually access the same information they may need for learning from anywhere in the world. They are trying to create  library and a museum that have two sides, a client side and a server side. This is perfect because instead of shutting down the site for maintenance, like most websites have to do, they can just edit while people are using it. There are the educators, students and fake participants who are the people who came up with the information.

There are many different styles of learning. There are many people who can benefit from learning through technology because it gives them the opportunity to learn in the comfort of their own home where it is quiet. The library may be a quiet place to learn, but it can be quite difficult to get comfortable because there are many other students there. The idea that someone can virtually access new and old information at the click of a button can be very helpful to students.

When in elementary, middle and high school I remember taking many field trips to many educational places such as, museums. As I got older I realized how fortunate I was to be able to go on these trips. Not everyone has the necessary funding to go on these educational trips. Filed trips such as these are important because it gives the students the opportunity to get out of the routine of listening to the teacher talk the entire day and lets them explore something new in a different way. Being able to virtually access these museums would create great opportunities for those who can't physically go on educational field trips.

Adding the TNT an preparing for the big boom!

Mid Boom...

What's left of my rocket after the BIG BOOM!... So sad..

Minecraft BIG ROCKET!

This is me creating my bigger rocket in Minecraft. I learned how to make the night go by faster by sleeping in a bed.

Here I'm adding a glass section to my rocket.

Finishing off the top of the rocket.

Added the door so you can enter the rocket for takeoff!

Adding the wings to the rocket!

This is a photo fo my last sleep cycle in my bed.

A far away view of my monster rocket!

My Minecraft rocket blown up!

This is me blowing up my rocket. This is the rocket mid blow up.

This is what my rocket looks like after I blew it up with TNT.

CLASS 9: 3D ROCKET IN MINECRAFT

Here is me building my rocket in Minecraft. It got dark very quickly so I had had to put out torches so I was able to see my rocket at night.

This is where I added the wings to my rocket. I used gold ore.

Here I tried to get as far away as possible so I could get a good look at my full rocket.
